Ensembles

Honors Band
The Honor Band is Jobe Middle School’s premier performing ensemble. They officially represent the school and perform throughout the year. The Honor Band sets the standard in musicianship, integrity and professionalism. Honor Band students are expected to practice the required amount to maintain growth as a musician and uphold the integrity and standard of this ensemble. As this ensemble represents Jobe in many extracurricular activities, it is required by our state’s “No Pass/No Play” law that each student maintain a 70 or higher in all classes (including AP classes!). Members in the Honor Band are highly encouraged to enroll in private lessons; and are required to attend section rehearsals, audition for the All-District and All-Region Band, perform at Solo & Ensemble Contest and be good leaders in general.

Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is Jobe’s second performing ensemble. They also represent the school and perform throughout the year and numerous concerts and contests. Symphonic Band students are also expected to practice the required amount to maintain growth as a musician and uphold the integrity and standard of this ensemble. As this ensemble represents Jobe in a few extracurricular activities, it is required by our state’s “No Pass/No Play” law that each student maintain a 70 or higher in all classes. The Symphonic Band students are encouraged to take private lessons. They are also required to attend sectional rehearsals starting in November, perform at Solo & Ensemble Contest and follow the standard set by the Honor Band.

Symphonic II Band
The Symphonic II Band is Jobe’s third performing ensemble. They will also represent the school and perform throughout the year at a few concerts. Symphonic II students are also expected to practice the required amount to maintain growth as a musician and uphold the integrity and standard of this ensemble. The Symphonic II Band students are encouraged to take private lessons.

Beginner Band
The Beginner Band is for students who did not take band in 6th or 7th grade but are interested in learning an instrument. Students will complete objectives to demonstrate good tone production, technical skills, musical expression, and music theory. Learning these objectives will help teach the students about self-discipline and responsibility.

Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is an advanced band class offered at Jobe for primarily 8th graders. This class will teach students the fundamentals of how to play jazz music. Students will practice in class, and perform at the Holiday and Spring Concert. A special competition at the Sandy Lake Contest will likely be possible!
